A great one from one of my all-time favorites. Happy pre-Thanksgiving.

Fall in Oregon

To me, this is much less about me sharing a “cool ad” and more about sharing a really well done little story. It’s like a 90 second short film.

It doesn’t hurt that most of my life right now is spent observing the daily expressions of boredom, happiness, exasperation, excitement and pride that come with childhood. This nails that.

So look beyond the fact that the main purpose of this is to make consumers in England shop at John Lewis. Instead, think about the truth it tells in 90 seconds.

I’m actually good with the deluge of leaves we get each year. Forced time outside in the crisp fall air. Good times with neighbors. Not to mention the sense if accomplishment when the 130th bag is full and the yard is (relatively) leaf free. Thanks for dying, leaves.

Independence

I was able to work from home today. In doing so, I was able to drive my sons to school. It’s a simple thing, but something I love doing. Five minutes on a weekday morning, uninterrupted - when I’d usually be on the train.

Typically, when we pull up at school, several older kids are assigned the task of walking the younger kids to their respective lines. This morning, Pete would have none of it. I opened the car door, he put on his backpack, looked up at that big 7th grader and said, “I’m Pre-K, but I know where to go.” and bolted by her yelling “Bye Dad!”

Now part of me sees this as troublesome - that my kids are old enough to not need me - or anyone for that matter. But the bigger part of me is proud as hell. He wasn’t scared. He knew where he needed to go and he went there.

Disgusting Filth.

Hot, filthy rock & roll. Perfect for the first snow of the season. Amazing how much noise for just two dudes.

Of course this isn’t new, but it’s ridiculous nonetheless. Warm it up.

A Night’s Sleep

Even for non-sleepers like me, there are times when our bodies won’t let us push them any further. They shut it down. That’s what happened to me last night. I had been sick. Had been on too many trains & planes. Been coughing consistently for weeks. It was time. At 9:30 my wife said, “You have to get out of here. Go to bed. Don’t fight it.” So I did. And it was tremendous. How about sleeping?
